Last week, six lucky club members explored the wonders of Channel Islands through the Santa Monica Mountains Institutes.Thirty members from three clubs were guided by naturalists on a four day expedition of the islands. Everyday they learned about local plants and animals, island history, and gained a new respect for nature. The kids took daily hikes for miles in search of wildlife. On the trip they spotted an Island Fox, dolphins, jelly fish,  elephant seals, humpback whales, a even blue whales. In addition, they got to go on a small boat deep into the longest cave in the world called the Painted Wall Cave.

It was an unforgettable adventure; Club Member Tristan expressed, “This was so magical and awesome and there is so much to being a kid than sitting around. . . this was the experience of a lifetime!” Members had this amazing opportunity because of support from our fabulous Board of Directors!

What an incredible experience! Sleeping on a boat, surrounded by whales, seeing what REAL California au natural is really like! I’m jealous too! Next camp stop for the kids – Catalina!
