Members have had a chance to explore music over the past few months, thanks to a collaboration with Laguna Beach LIVE! Through learning about different musical instruments and styles, an exploration of rhythm and movement, art with music classes, and professional performances.

(Update: Check out our My Hero Video!)The Club participated in an inspiring field trip to Seven Degrees to take part in the 2013 Laguna Hero Fest. The event was part of the MY HERO Project, a nonprofit that encourages artistic storytelling through film, art, and music. The kids were shown to short films about global heroes and other kid’s ways of life. They also watched the screening of their film about the Boys & Girls Club and had some giggles seeing themselves on the big screen. Artwork that the kids created at the club, about their heroes was also displayed on the walls for all to see. READ MORE
Ashley Flores won 3rd place in the Moore Media Photography Contest for her tide pool photo taken during a Boys & Girls Club field trip for Photo Club. In addition to a $50 prize, her photo will be featured in this year’s Laguna Beach phone book. An independent panel of three judges selected the winning photos based on composition, photographic quality, originality, uniqueness, general interest, and appeal. Winners were interviewed on KX FM 93.5 Laguna Radio and photos of the students and their winning photo will appear in StuNewsLaguna.com. In honor of May being “Water Awareness Month,” club members designed artwork for the Roll out the Rain Barrel Art Contest through Laguna Beach Water District. Club Members Sydney Ford and Saige Evans both were selected to create their design on large rain barrels that will be on display at City Hall and throughout Laguna Beach stores. Congratulations to both talented club artist and for helping spreading the message about water conservation! READ MORE
The club celebrated National Boys & Girls Club week with many special activities at our local club. They got a chance to created their own unique colorful tie dye t-shirt, published the first edition of the “BGC Gazette”, a newsletter made by the kids, had a week long can food drive for the homeless shelter, healthy and fun relay races, and hosted a BBQ with a bring a friend for free day.
