Club Zoom is an experience unlike any other. This science club opens up new opportunities and ideas to the members and allows them to do hands-on activities while exploring the world they live in. We have been experiencing the amazing and fun things that dry ice can do when used properly. The children have learned that dry ice is made up of frozen carbon dioxide which means it doesn’t melt like regular ice. When handling the ice, the members used winter gloves to make sure they didn’t burn their hands. During the experiments we dropped dry ice into warm water the smoke we saw was a combination of carbon dioxide and water vapor. The gas we saw was actually a cloud of tiny water droplets. READ MORE
On Thursday, November 17, the Woodard family traveled to Los Angeles for the long anticipated Fit Family Challenge Finale. This year’s Challenge helped five families from across the country incorporate principles of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) Triple Play program into their lives over a period of six weeks. Mario Lopez, BGCA alum and host of the nationally syndicated daily show EXTRA, crowned the Porter family, from Wisconsin, as the winners based on their ability to increase their physical activity, make healthier nutrition choices and spend more quality time together. The event celebrated the Challenge finalists and put them to one last test as each family completed a race of exercise, games and healthy eating. The winning family was awarded a healthy family vacation to Colorado Springs to visit the U.S. Olympic Training Facility in 2012. The other four families also received prizes, including Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect system. READ MORE

On Sunday November 6, the Woodard Family ran in the Huntington Beach Derby. As a part of the Fit Family Challenge Sage, Sierra and Scott Woodard with the company of Sandra, Elena, Jasa and Emily ran a 2 kilometer (1.25 miles) obstacle course on the beach. However, it was by no means as relaxing and elegant as it sounds the pouring rain and 60 degree weather made for a unique experience. Thanks to the restaurants in the area, the group was provided with home-made ponchos using trash can liners. Regardless of the weather, the group had a great time burning some calories and setting a healthy example for everyone! READ MORE
