LilyThis past week, the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach hosted the 2013 Pacific Regional ImageMakers Photography Exhibit. The judging took place in the Gym with three judges selecting the pieces to go on display at the Laguna Art Museum and move on to the National level. The judges included local photographers Mary Church, Tom Lamb, and Director of Sony Alpha Camera Systems Mike Kahn. The states with artwork in this years exhibit included California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, and Washington. Regional winners will be on display in the Young Artsits Society Gallery at the Laguna Art Museum April 21st -May 19th. The reception and opening is on April 21st from 2:00-4:00 PM. Teens Learn to Fly!

(Update: Article picked up by the Coastline Pilot) Twenty-eight of our teens flew an airplane and shadowed pilots as part of the Young Eagles program at Lyon Air Museum! The teens spent several hours learning about the mechanics of the planes as well as the navigation systems. They also toured the Lyons Air Museum and received special training from professional, dedicated pilots. This special excursion is part of the Teen Center Career Launch program, which provides opportunities for teens to shadow professionals  in a variety of different fields. The teen center is very thankful for all of the pilot volunteers who helped our teens soar and brought a new meaning to “the sky’s the limit”. READ MORE

(More Pictures Here) Garden Club members have worked hard to keep the garden thriving and it has paid off! Every Friday, the club has a barbecue lunch and this year, grilled veggies from the garden are substituted for chips so that every member is able to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Garden club has already harvested 10 huge zucchinis and are patiently waiting for the arrival of the tomatoes, corn, squash, green beans, cucumbers, bell peppers, sunflowers and eggplants.  We have already turned many non-veggie-eating members into veggie lovers and this summer we will only continue to open their eyes to new healthy options. Last Thursday, Garden Club members planted all new fruits and vegetables. The garden now holds tomatoes, corn, watermelon, zucchini, green beans, bell peppers, and many others.  When the time comes to harvest, all club members will  have the opportunity to eat the organic food that they grew themselves. On Saturday March 31st, Club members participated in Boys & Girls Clubs in Orange County’s annual Unity Day. The event brought 4 clubs and over 50 kids from all over Orange County to enjoy face paint, a bounce house, dodge ball, relay races, and barbecue at Boys & Girls Club of Garden Grove. Members in 1st- 3rd grade made friends while enjoying a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. READ MORE
