The Boys & Girls Club’s Community Room was transformed into a Photo Exhibit with over 800 amazing pictures on the walls, silhouettes of club members suspended from the ceiling, a giant camera created out of recycled materials, and included a special premiere of 8 short films produced by Club Members. The Photo Exhibit brought together club members, friends, family, and the community to experience the impressive display of photography created by members in four age divisions and five categories, including color process, black-and-white process, alternative process, digital and photo essay. Selected photos will compete at the regional level, and regional winners will then be judged nationally. Twenty national winners will be named and their photography will be displayed in the ImageMakers National Photography Contest traveling exhibition and at special BGCA events throughout the year. The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach has had the wonderful recognition of winning nationally in the competition five times!
Through the past year, more than 200 club members have gone through Photograph/Film Club and were provided the opportunity to enter their best work in the local exhibit at the club. This exciting event was judged by three local photographers: Tom Lamb, Heather Van Roekel, and Mary Church. All three photographers, along with the families and friends who stopped by to see the exhibit, expressed the amazing skill level of the youth’s photography and their ability to capture interesting compositions! Throughout the year, club members get to participate in exciting weekly field trips to work on their photography and filming skills as well as a special summer photography mentorship program at the Festival of Arts.
