On Tuesday, June 8th, our TLC kindergarteners got to experience, first hand, the amazing Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC). PMMC provides rescue and rehabilitation to injured, sick, or even lost marine mammals off the Coast of Orange County. We toured the facility and heard a story about Timtam, a baby sea lion that was separated from his mother during stormy weather, then rescued, rehabilitated and released back into the wild by PMMC.
Of course, our kinders were concerned for Timtam because he was not only lost, but very hungry too! Naturally, they asked TONS of questions – and when they saw all of PMMC’s residents, they oogled over how cute they were! We all learned the importance of cleaning up after ourselves (and others) while at the beach in order to help keep seals and sea lions safe. After the presentation and tour, the kinders asked if they could feed the sea lions - but since they are wild animals, we all agreed to help buy FIFTEEN pounds of yummy, slimy fish to help fatten up the residents of PMMC instead!
